Putin- Erdoğan meeting in Baku starts with a scandal

STEPANAKERT, JUNE 15, ARTSAKHPRESS: The presidents had left for Baku to follow the opening ceremony of the European Games.

Kommersant.ru introduced the details of the Putin- Erdoğan meeting, revealing that it could be cancelled without even starting.

The two presidents’ meeting was scheduled for the morning following the opening ceremony of the games. It was to take place in the hotel where the President of Turkey stayed. At a certain moment Erdoğan appeared in the negotiations hall of the hotel with his Foreign Affairs Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu and a few other representatives of the delegation.

“To put it mildly, it was unexpected. Not only Vladimir Putin was absent, but also all the other members of the Russian delegation. Erdoğan looked around seeking his colleague and unable to find him, became gloomy. It was a total failure of the rite, particularly - the Turkish rite. They called their boss to the negotiations hall when Putin had not even went out of his hotel,” the journalist of “Kommersant” wrote. He told how Russia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov and “Gazprom’s” head Aleksey Miller entered the hall in a short while. “Rosatom’s” head Sergey Kiriyenko and Minister of Energy Alexander Novak followed them. After making Erdoğan wait a couple of more minutes, Putin finally came in.
