STEPANAKERT, JANUARY 13, ARTSAKHPRESS: He, first of all, singled out Turkey’s further denial of the Armenian Genocide, its support for pan-human evil, showing the entire world that it is a bearer of the Young Turks’ ideology as denying the Armenian Genocide is a crime as well.

“The failed Gallipoli event should be singled out as part of the Turkey-staged show in 2015,” Mr Melkonyan said.

With respect to Turkey’s international image, last year is notable due to the fact that the world came to realize that Turkey is overtly supporting extremists and Islamic terrorists in different ways – military, economic, political and so on.

“We are summing up the year with the president of one of the world powers, Russia, openly speaking of Turkey being an ally of an extremist Islamic organization in different formats. This is one of the instances in Turkey’s history, when Turkey was supportive of criminals, and new technologies have just made it more obvious,” Mr Melkonyan said.

With respect to Armenian-Turkish relations, the export said that no headway has been recorded and Turkey has not changed its policy in any way.

As regards Armenia’s foreign policy, Mr Melkonyan said that, in the context of recognition and condemnation of the Armenian Genocide, last year was a landmark and successful year as Armenia’s foreign office, in cooperation with other government bodies, Armenian church and Armenian Diaspora, as well as other structures, could make certain achievements, accomplish important tasks, and the world is now associating the year 2015 with the Armenian Genocide.

“We can speak of quite a number of achievements, but in political, spiritual and moral respects, one of the most memorable and response-provoking achievements was the Pope’s speech, which was a landmark event in our 100-year-old struggle,” Mr Melkonyan said.

Speaking of Russian-Turkish relations, he noted that the latest developments showed the relations are deeply problematic and economic interests, trade and tourism do not at all mean that Russian-Turkish relations could develop into strategic partnership or good-neighborly relations. The nations’ interests are in conflict, as they are in different political arenas and their interests have been in conflict throughout history.

“So Russian-Turkish relations can be considered problematic. To the civilized world’s joy, Russia succeeds in unmasking Turkey at the highest level, showing its contribution to global terrorism and regional destabilization,” Mr Melkonyan said.
