 Weightlifting Association opened in Artsakh

STEPANAKERT, MARCH 15, ARTSAKHPRESS: In an interview with “ Artsakhpress”, President of the Weightlifting Association Arthur Shirinyan noted that in Artsakh not much attention is paid to weightlifting, that’s why it occurred to them to open Weightlifting Association.

"We aim to develop weightlifting in Artsakh, which is an Olympic sport.  32 sportsmen attended weightlifting sessions in Stepanakert. Weightlifting sessions are alsobeing held in Shushi. We plan to open branches in Martuni and Martakert, so we want to invite coaches from the Republic of Armenia,” said Shirinyan  and added: “ We have some problems for holding sessions: the acquisition of sports facilities, necessary conditions. We decided Artsakh sportsmen to participate in tournaments in uniforms that symbolize Artsakh."

“Weightlifting sports school will be opened adjacent to the Yeznik Mozyan vocational school. In April Artsakh sportsmen for the first time will take part in Weightlifting Championship held in Vanadzor of the Republic of Armenia. 6 Artsakh sportsmen will take part in the championship,” said weightlifting coach Arthur Nahapetyan and added that 11-18-year-old children are participating in weightlifting sessions.

As weightlifting is an Olympic sport, in that sense they are aiming to rapidly develop and disseminate this sport in Artsakh.
