ICRC provides assistance for elderly lonely people and victims of mine explosions (Photos)

In 2016 the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has provided financial aid to more than 290 vulnerable families and elderly people living in city and rural areas of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh).

STEPANAKERT, APRIL 21,  ARTSAKHPRESS:  The Head of Communication Department at ICRC in Karabakh Eteri Musaelyan informed "Artsakhpress" and noted that the aid enables them to maintain a minimum standard of living.

"Since 2012, the ICRC has providing assistance to those injured as a result of mine explosions, trying to facilitate their problems. More than 200 families have benefited from this program.

A number of more vulnerable families affected by mine explosions have received financial assistance for covering medical expenses, " she said.

The representatives of the ICRC of Artsakh and Armenia visited the lonely elderly people and those affected by mine explosions living in the cities of Martuni and Chartar, Artsakh Republic.

The 80-year-old lonely elderly woman Svetlana Musayelyan living in Martuni told that she has serious health problems.

 "One eye doesn't see at all. I can't go outside.  Neighbors and relatives help.  It is already 3 years that the Red Cross monthly gives me 4900 dram, and the state, besides monthly pension, every month pays compensation at a rate of 9000 dram," she said.

The beneficiary of the ICRC, 39-year-old Sasun Daniyelyan from the city of Chartar said that in 2015 he has lost the right leg as a result of blasting on a mine.

"I receive disability pension at a rate of only 19000 dram. There are problems with an artificial limb. My old one has been broken and I can't use it any more.

I have two small children. I work as a night watchman at the local school.

My wife doesn't work. We have no house. We rent our house," he said and noted that a few days ago the ICRC has given 2 tons of wheat and as assistance hens will be also provided.
