Artsakh’s economy on the rise, government expects significant growth

STEPANAKERT, JUNE 5 , ARTSAKHPRESS-ARMENPRESS: The government of the Republic of Artsakh plans to increase processing of wheat, barley and maize, compares to the previous years.

“Overall we are satisfied, and the overall agricultural projects already have their clients. In economic terms, of course we had issues, quite many investors delayed their activities, but fortunately we also have an overwhelming number of investors who haven’t not only delayed, but also resumed their investments during the previous year’s April days. Only a couple of days the works stopped, mostly due to human resources, because the main workforce departed for the frontline”, Artsakh’s Prime Minister Arayik Harutyunyan told a press conference.

According to the PM, the economic growth is increasing yearly, and this year the government is expecting a double digit number, because in yearend of 2016 many TPPs were launched, which led to Artsakh becoming a country which produces more energy than it needs, and is now able to work more efficiently with Armenia. Harutyunyan mentioned that investments were made in two main directions – Hydro power and mining.

“With the first five months of 2017, we can say that we have increased construction volumes due to charity, public and other projects. Fish breeding is also developing”, he said.
