Austrian OSCE chairmanship: Ceasefire violations in Karabakh are unacceptable

STEPANAKERT, JUNE 22, ARTSAKHPRESS: The statement came in response to a request to comment on the latest ceasefire violations by Azerbaijani side that claimed lives of four Karabakh soldiers.

“Together with the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs, we have repeatedly made clear: ceasefire violations are unacceptable, they undermine the peace process,” Press Officer of the Austrian OSCE Chairmanship Helene Spitzer said in an e-mailed statement when asked whether the Austrian chairmanship will make any statement to prevent further escalation.

“We need a toning down of rhetoric and abidance by humanitarian law.  We fully support the Co-Chairs in their persistent mediation efforts, and refer to their most recent statement issued on 19 June. Their ideas to move the process forward are fully in line with our approach as OSCE Chairmanship.”

As reported earlier, three Armenian soldiers were killed as a result of the firing by the Azerbaijani armed forces on Friday. Defense Army servicemen Arayik Matinyan (born in 1997), Vigen Petrosyan (born in 1997) and Vardan Sargsyan (born in 1997) were fatally wounded.

On Saturday morning Karabakh army said Azerbaijan resorted to a new provocation as a result of which a 20-year-old soldier was killed in the morning. Two other soldiers were wounded.
