STEPANAKERT, NOVEMBER 21, ARTSAKHPRESS:Artsakh Republic President Bako Sahakyan also partook at a solemn event of signing a friendship declaration.

President Sahakyan qualified the signing of the friendship declaration a significant event for Artsakh from political, legal and moral viewpoints classifying it among important bases for cementing and developing friendly ties with France.

“The cooperation with France and its administrative regions is among the main directions of our foreign policy and expansion of sister cities’ list and geography, deepening ties with them are among pivotal components of this policy”, underlined the Head of the State in his speech. He added that in case of proper organization of work, the cooperation between the two cities will have a promising outlook.

The mayor of Alfortville, in his turn, attached importance to the signing of the friendship declaration.

''Welcoming the consistent steps of the population of Artsakh to create and develop a free and democratic society, realizing the necessity of promoting dialogue between peoples and establishing lasting peace in the South Caucasus, basing on the absolute importance of the freedom and democratic values enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, we sign a friendship declaration,'' the mayor noted.

Mayor of Berdzor, Artyom Saribekyan, also made a welcoming speech, expressing hope that the relations formed through the video only speak about the possibility of modern technologies. In his words, on the future agenda a great deal of attention will be paid to live communication. As a first step, he invited his French counterpart to visit Berdzor.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Artsakh, Masis Mayilyan, also partook at the solemn ceremony.

After the event Mr. Saribekyan told Artsakhpress that by signing the declaration they want to strengthen the existing ties between the two cities, to promote the development of relations between them and to create an environment in which the communities will be able to implement common programs in education, culture, sport, trade and local governance.

“Our cooperation will also contribute to the exchange of experience and professional skills. It will also enable us to become more aware of each other’s historical and cultural heritage,” Artyom Saribekyan said.

Alfortville is located 7.6 km far from Paris, in the province of Il-de-France. The population of Alfortville was 44 818 in 2013.
