“Fruitful Artsakh”: Expectations and wishes will depend on tomorrow’s Telethon

STEPANAKERT, NOVEMBER 22, ARTSAKHPRESS:“The problem of water often leaves thousands of hectares of fertile land uncultivated,” Aren Khachatryan, a young farmer from Askeran region said in an interview with Artsakhpress.

Aren Khachatryan is engaged in gardening; and if the problem of irrigation water is solved as a result of fundraising, it will create new opportunities for him.

Aram Verdyan, a farmer from Martakert region, noted that Artsakh being an agricultural country has a serious water problem in valley areas.

“The lack of water deprives many of the opportunity to develop the sector,” Aram Verdyan said. He has great expectations for the Telethon and he expressed confidence that the solution of water problem will also improve living standard in Artsakh.

Most of the money raised during the Telethon will be used to construct and modernize water irrigation systems in Artsakh, namely in Martuni, Askeran and Hadrut regions.

In an interview with Artsakhpress the Head of the State Water Inspection and Maintenance Department of the Ministry of Agriculture, Armen Nersisyan, said that the selection of the aforementioned regions is connected with the absence of other irrigation means in these regions.

“Those farmers who wish to use drip irrigation system, will receive support from the state,” said Mr. Nersisyan.
