STEPANAKERT, JANUARY 12, ARTSAKHPRESS:Pastor of the St. Hakob Armenian Church of Stepanakert priest Minas Movsisyan informed Artsakhpress about the aforementioned.

“St. Sargis engaged himself in teaching the gospel and church building. St. Sargis, his son Martiros and 14 brave warriors were martyred for their faith in Christianity. St. Sargis’ worship has spread in Armenia since 5th century when Mesrop Mashtots took  Sargis’ relics to the village of Ushi where Saint Sargis Monastery of Ushi was built over his relics,’’ priest Minas Movsisyan said, in particular.

In his words, the Armenians celebrate this feast with prayers and folk traditions.

‘’On the night proceeding the feast day, girls eat salty biscuits and refrain from drinking water, so as to see their future bridegroom in their dreams, bringing them water. Also faithful people used to place a tray full of flour or porridge before the door believing that while passing near their door, St. Sargis will leave the footprint of his horse on the flour symbolizing great success,’’ the priest said.
