STEPANAKERT, MARCH 15, ARTSAKHPRESS:Ani Gevorgyan told Artsakhpress she got interested in the scientist, when she learned that he, with his limited physical abilities, had become a world-renowned scientist.

“I was excited and when in 2015 I was told that renowned astrophysicist Garik Israyelyan who knew Hawking personally was in Artsakh I asked him to present the great scientist with his portrait made by me. Later I was informed my gift reached the addressee and that he liked it a lot,’’ Ani Gevorgyan said.

To note, world-renowned physicist Stephen Hawking has died on March 14, 2018 at the age of 76.

Stephen Hawking was a leading theoretical physicist and cosmologist.

Located over 1000 meters above sea level, Astghashen is an ecovillage in the Republic of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh). The name “Astghashen” comes from the word “astgh,” which means “star” in Armenian. The reason behind the name of this village is purely magical: according to some people, after raining, star-shaped fossils appear on the ground of the village.

Based on a reasonable academic theory, 175 million years ago, during the Jurassic period of the Mesozoic era, there was a sea in this territory, and these star-shaped fossils are the remains of sea lilies. You may also find other sea fossils, such as seashells, sea urchins, and many others, right under your feet.
