On May 24, the annual conference of Armenian Bar Association of America kicked off in Shushi. Lawyers from the USA and Canada participated in the conference.

STEPANAKERT, MAY 24, ARTSAKHPRESS:As ArtsakhPress correspondent informed, Artsakh Human Rights Defender, Ruben Melikyan, delivered theopening speech at the conference. He highlighted that the conference is held in Artsakh especially, in order to establish ties between Artsakh and colleagues in the Diaspora.
“Last year I participated in the yearly meeting of the Armenian Bar Association of America in California. At the time the idea of holding the next yearly meeting in Artsakh came up. During that conference we presented questions concerning the defense of human rights in Artsakh. This resulted in the understanding that there is a necessity for implementing a range of initiatives for the strengthening of cooperation in different directions. Presently, two members of the association are doing their traineeship in Artsakh. The conference makes their activity and our cooperation even more tangible,’’ Ruben Melikyan said.
Chairman of the Armenian Bar Association of America, Saro Krkonyan, said that the recognition of Artsakh by international structures has become one of the objectives of their association.
“Among the projects implemented in Artsakh, the creation of a legal clinic should be mentioned. Citizens have been receiving free legal consultations in the clinic. Indeed, we want to be helpful and have our participation in the issues related to the defense of human rights. The necessity is great and it’s been proved during the days of April war,’’ Saro Krkonyan said.
The chairman of the Armenian Bar Association of America highlighted the importance of Stepanakert airport’s activity in the Artsakh’s recognition process.
Highlighting the initiative, secretary of the association, Vana Gitsinyan, noted that the main theme of the conference is the defense of human rights.
She stressed that the rights of the Armenians should be defended in the US, Armenia and Artsakh.
The conference will continue works on the next day.
