STEPANAKERT, JUNE 28, ARTSAKHPRESS:According to “Nezavisimaya Gazeta”, Chechnya's spiritual leader Salah Mejiyev announced that Shia Islam in Chechnya has no place, because the Shias are under Iran's influence and are exposed to radical ideology.

Shamil Tagiyev, the representative of the Azerbaiajni community of Chechnya expressed concern over the issue. According to him, the Azerbaijanis of Chechnya, who are the followers of Shia Islam, have no opportunity to pray, as the spiritual authorities close the doors of mosques in front of them.

Tagiyev noted that Ramzan Kadyrov considers Ilham Aliyev his brother, and Heydar Aliyev called his father Ahmad Kadyrov one of the best son of the Caucasus and expressed hope that the secular authorities will not allow the Azerbaijani community members to suffer in Chechnya.

If about the situation has been reported in the press, it means that the situation is much more complicated. The analysts suggest that the problem is not as religious, as political.

Chechnya has close ties with Saudi Arabia and the Arab Emirates, but Azerbaijan hasn’t oriented on the background of the recent tensions. The number of the Azeris in Chechnya is unclear. They mainly live in Grozny, and if the religious confrontation continues, it is not excluded that the situation can get out of control and grow into clashes.
