STEPANAKERT,  FEBRUARY 14, ARTSAKHPRESS: Harutyunyan stated this at the Armenian State University of Economics, giving a lecture on "Economic Perspectives and Development Vision of Artsakh", Armenpress reports.
"The fields that ensure economic growth in Artsakh are energy, agriculture, services, etc. Artsakh has been already self-sufficient in the production of electricity. Energy in Artsakh provides more than 1,000 jobs and billions of income. We also have become self-sufficient in the most of the consumer basket products. It refers to all the products except sugar and potato as Karabakh has not produced sugar yet, and Karabakh is not self-sufficient in potato production, as  much cheaper and much better is produced in Armenia, "he said.
Harutyunyan mentioned that agriculture in Artsakh will be one of the main directions for the economic growth. "We have been able to move from monoculture to more valuable crops and to ensure crop rotation in recent years. We still have tens of thousands of uncultivated land in Artsakh. We view pomegranate production as strategic because pomegranate production has a competitive advantage in Artsakh, "he added.
Referring to cattle breeding, Arayik Harutyunyan noted that there is a serious opportunity for development in cattle breeding.
He also informed that a program of Stepanakert-Shushi ropeway is being considered; it requires an investment of $ 15- $ 17 million dollars. "In this direction we will work in the near future,” he said and  denied  the rumors that people emigrate from Artsakh. " Such phenomenon also exists, but the population of Artsakh increases by 1,000 to 1200  people every year," the ex-Prime Minister noted.
Afterwards, Arayik Harutyunyan answered students' questions.
