Russian MFA warns Russians with Armenian roots about risks of traveling to Azerbaijan
STEPANAKERT, MARCH 13, ARTSAKHPRESS: “Due to the fact that, despite the numerous appeals of the Russian side, the practice of not allowing Russian citizens with Armenian roots to the Republic of Azerbaijan continues,” the Russian Foreign Ministry website says in the section “Warnings for Russian citizens”.
The recommendation stated that “under the pretext of the unresolved Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the Azerbaijani border service continues to refuse to allow persons, regardless of citizenship, having direct or indirect signs of belonging to Armenian nationality, to enter the country.”
“It is motivated by the inability to ensure the personal security of such persons,” the Russian Foreign Ministry noted.
According to the document, “the repeated appeals of the Russian side to the Azerbaijani side about the inadmissibility of discriminatory actions on the ethnic basis with regard to the citizens of the Russian Federation arriving in the Republic of Azerbaijan are ignored”. “Taking into account the circumstances outlined, we strongly recommend that Russian citizens carefully plan the possible risks when planning trips to Azerbaijan,” the recommendation says.
