Artsakh's deputy defense minister: Army must always be ready for war

STEPANAKERT, APRIL 2, ARTSAKHPRESS: This is what Deputy Minister of Defense of the Republic of Artsakh  Vardan Balayan told Tert.am as he touched upon rumors according to which there was a delay of artillery and certain commanders had suspended counterattacks during the Four-Day Artsakh War in April 2016, news.am reports.

Touching upon the proposal of the Sasna Tsrer (Daredevils of Sassoun) Party to hold hearings devoted to the Four-Day Artsakh War in the Parliament of the Republic of Armenia, Vardan Balayan said he doesn’t support that proposal.

He also stated that the main purpose of the army is to always be ready for war. “We always have to remember the Four-Day Artsakh War. After the war, we have solved many issues, and the army is more combat-ready. We must do everything we can to make sure the army remains strong,” he stressed.

When told that there are even people who believe there is a need to institute criminal cases, taking into consideration the fact that both Nikol Pashinyan and Davit Tonoyan have declared that there were intelligence data regarding the potential operations of the adversary’s special units, Vardan Balayan said he had no comment on that.

When asked if it is right to claim that the artillery was delayed during the war and certain commanders had suspended counterattacks, the Major-General said the following: “I believe these are speculations. If there were such things, we wouldn’t be ready for war, but we won the war in April 2016. I believe our heroic soldiers, under their commanders’ leadership, did everything they could to give a counterattack and win. Azerbaijan had tried to create all the conditions to make the war large-scale, but since the key objectives were not met, the adversary was stopped. The intelligence data have not been overlooked,” he stated.
