Armenia-based Serb footballer seeks government's aid for flood stricken country

A Serbian fullback of Armenia’s Gandzasar has asked the Government - through the sports portal Armsport.am - to lend a helping hand to his flood-stricken country.

Serbia is now facing an emergency, with thousands left homeless in the wake of the continuing floods caused by unprecedented rains. The disaster has left over 40 dead.

“The Armenians and Serbs have always been brotherly nations. Upon hearing the news of the [1988] Spitak earthquake, the Serbs were the first to head to Armenia to deliver aid. And now Serbia faces an extreme tragedy, with thousands left to the reverses of fortune,

“My request to Armenia is to help my country where even the shortage of water now causes deaths. We need anything now. I am on a leave now, and my family is all right. But a few kilometers away, people die. We faced bombings in 1999, but the situation wasn’t so bad even then,” Goran Obradovich said in a phone conversation with the website.
