Second President believes Karabakh is integral part of Armenia

In Robert Kocharyan’s perception, Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) is an integral part of Armenia, and all of us should strive to its ultimate juridical establishment.

As Artsakhpress reports Armenian second President Robert Kocharyan’s office manager Victor Soghomonyan told the aforesaid to Yerkir.am

He commented on Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev’s recent statement and Armenia President Serzh Sargsyan’s response to this announcement.

“Becoming a member in any international organization cannot justify the creation of barriers between Armenia and Artsakh,” Soghomonyan said.

At the meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council, which was convened in the Kazakh capital city Astana on May 29, Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev spoke about the letter by Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev calling to accept Armenia into the Eurasian Union only within the limits of the country’s internationally recognized borders; that is, not including Nagorno-Karabakh.

President Serzh Sargsyan, on the other hand, responded to this statement when he returned to Armenia.

“As to Nazarbayev’s remark, it is wrong to speak about borders. What borders do you mean? The Karabakh issue is not to be settled in the Customs Union. And who said we are going to join Customs Union together with Karabakh? This cannot happen because Karabakh, at least according to our legislation, at least in our perception, is not a part of Armenia today. And accession to the Customs Union obviously contributes to the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Nazarbayev’s remark was certainly unpleasant, but it cannot cause us any harm,” the Armenian President had stated, in particular.
