Violence against peaceful Kurds reminds of 1915 actions committed against Armenians: Turcologist

STEPANAKERT, DECEMBER 16, ARTSAKHPRESS-ARMENPRESS: Turcologist Andranik Ispiryan expressed such an opinion during the conversation with “Armenpress”.

“It is interesting that the violence is employed in the same regions of Diyarbakır where Armenians once used to live, Armenian districts were located, where even now there are Armenian churches. So, in the same part where Armenians were displaced, killed by the Turkish authorities 100 years ago, the same happens with the Kurds now,” Andranik ispiryan said, emphasizing that Armenian cultural values are also in danger because of those clashes.

According to the turcologist, the actions of the Turkish officials in the part where Kurds live started after June 7. Those actions are not limited only to Diyarbakır. As Andranik Ispiryan said, military actions are being taken in Şırnak.  The tension came to the fore, when the Turkish authorities started fighting the Kurdish gunmen in the mountains. The residents of different towns and communities rose to their feet to defend the Kurdish gunmen.

As a result of the abovementioned, the struggle against Kurds in the mountains  shifted to urban areas, mass clashes began, the police took measures and many citizens were killed including pregnant women, children. The turcologist added that killing pregnant women or 10-year old children cannot in any way be called as struggle against terrorism. Ispiryan emphasized that 300 peaceful residents have been killed since the day of elections.

The Turkish authorities do their best to displace active Kurdish residents from those territories. The objective is to establish control over those territories.

“I must say, that they succeed in that. Many Kurdish families leave their homes. That violence, displacement in a manner reminds of the events of 1915 committed against the Armenians,” Ispiryan said. He added that the international community still kept silent over the actions implemented towards peaceful Kurdish people.
