STEPANAKERT, JUNE 27, ARTSAKHPRESS: Speaking to Tert.am, Artak Zalaryan, the head of the Armenian National Assembly's Standing Committee on Foreign Relations, dismissed Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s recent statement misrepresenting the situation and rejecting the OSCE Minsk Group’s proposal for deploying ceasefire monitoring mechanisms along the Line of Contact.

Zakarayan also praised Pope Francis’ recent visit to Armenia and calls for peace and love voiced in his speeches (which he said were encouraging especially these days).

“The pontiff’s pilgrimage to the world’s first Christian country is sure to give more power and value to our present and future. His Holiness Pope Francis left divine messages of kindness and love, inspired by our ancient civilization, biblical history and tremendous Christian potential. I wonder what message the almighty pope will convey to Azerbaijan, the state with unknown origins, in the course of his visit, and what impressions he will gain from the Absheron Island tangled with oil and natural gas pipelines, and stained with innocent people's blood,” he added.
