Canada would accept 300,000 immigrants in 2017, maintaining this year’s target despite recommendations to increase it to help spur economic growth, Immigration Minister John McCallum said.

STEPANAKERT, NOVEMBER 1, ARTSAKHPRESS: The mentioned number corresponds to the expected indicator of the current year, however the ratio of groups of people arriving to Canada should be changed, The Guardian reported.
According to the minister, under next year’s plan, the number of immigrants admitted under the economic category will increase to 172,500 from 160,600 this year. The number of refugees will decrease to 40,000 from 55,800.
Making the 300,000 target permanent laid the foundation for future immigration growth.
