JULY ,19 STEPANAKERT, ARTSAKHPRESS: 28 lawmakers voted in favor of the incumbent president,  4 others votied for the other candidate, opposition MP Eduard Aghabekyan.

Bako Sahakyan thanked and said that he will continue to serve with new vigor and programs for the prosperity and development of Artsakh.

According to the country’s Constitution, the Parliament was to elect the president who would serve until 2020 – end of the current parliament’s mandate, after which a nationwide election will be held.

Three parliamentary factions, Fatherland, Democracy and Federation, nominated incumbent President Bako Sahakyan for office. The only non-partisan MP of the Parliament Arsen Arustamyan also voted in favor of Bako Sahakyan.

21 votes were needed to be elected.
