Armenian lawmaker calls on Latvia to recognize Armenian Genocide

STEPANAKERT, DECEMBER 16, ARTSAKHPRESS:The meeting addressed the international recognition and condemnation of the Armenian Genocide, as well as the Nagorno-Karabakh settlement process, the parliament’s press service said.

“Some high-ranking Latvian officials make statements on the NK conflict which do not stem from the friendship of our peoples. We expect that the future statements will not contradict the European Union's official position. Everyone should realize the issue cannot be resolved without exercising the Artsakh people’s right to self-determination,” Mr. Sharmazanov said adding, “We positively assess the statement issued by the friendship group ahead of the Armenian Genocide centennial and are hopeful that the group will initiate a process of acknowledging the Armenian Genocide in the Latvian parliament.”

Referring to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Sergey Potapkin stressed the issue must be settled on the basis of three well-known principles, with Latvia’s position going in line with that of the OSCE Minsk Group.
