On March 21, Artsakh Republic State Minister, Arayik Harutyunyan, who is currently in Australia on a working visit, was hosted in Australian Senate, where he met with a number of senators.

Artsakh Minister of State meets with senators in Australian Senate

STEPANAKERT, MARCH 21, ARTSAKHPRESS:Arayik Harutyunyan met with member of Australia’s Greens party, senator Janet Rice, and member of the Australian Labor Party Christina Keneally. The State Minister expressed his gratitude to the Greens party for the recognition of Artsakh people’s right to self-determination and handed over the Artsakh authorities’ letter of thanks written on this occasion. The letter was addressed to the chairman of the party Richard Di Natale.

At the request of the senators, Arayik Harutyunyan presented details on democratic processes that are underway in Artsakh and the present stage of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement efforts.

Reflecting on the present stage of the negotiation process, the State Minister emphasized that because of the Azerbaijan’s destructive position the conflict remains unsettled. In his words, Azerbaijan not only hinders the restoration of full-fledged negotiation format but also continues taking provocative actions on the border thus threatening the security of the Artsakh people.

During the meeting the question of creating friendly bilateral ties was also raised. At the senators’ suggestion, Arayik Harutyunyan was present at the Senate’s plenary session.

To note, the meeting was organized with the support of Armenian National Committee of Australia.

During the meeting Artsakh State Minister was accompanied by Artsakh's Permanent Representative to Australia, Kaylar Michaelian.
