On Friday, at the initiative of Artsakh Ministry of Culture, Youth Affairs and Tourism, a conference dedicated to 300th anniversary of Mekhitarist Congregation was held in Artsakh State University.

STEPANAKERT, JUNE 8, ARTSAKHPRESS: As ArtsakhPress correspondent informed, Director of the Artsakh State Museum, Melanya Balayan, and members of Mekhitarist Congregation’s delegation delivered speeches at the conference. In their speeches, they touched upon Mkhitar Sebastatsi’s activity and his foundation of Mekhitarist Congregation of Venice in St. Lazarus Island.

During the event “Hay Girk” (Armenian Book) film dedicated to Mkhitar Sebastatsi’s activity was shown for the first time.

At the conference Director of the Artsakh State Museum, Melanya Balayan, said that Mekhitarist Congregation’s visit to Artsakh is a great honor.

She noted that Mekhitarist Congregation of Venice is a unique center, which unites scientific power of all the Armenians.

“I want to note that since its foundation in 1701 the Congregation has carried out important educational, scientific and spiritual activity. In their researches, members of the Mekhitarist Congregation attach great importance to historic Armenia,’’ Melanya Balayan said.

Abbot of St. Lazarus Island of Venice, Serob Chemurlyan, said that it is a great honor for him to participate in the conference dedicated to the 300th anniversary of Mekhitarist Congregation in Artsakh.

In his speech  he told how Mkhitar Sebastatsi arrived in St. Lazarus Island and founded Mekhitarist Congregation.

Other members of the delegation delivered speeches at the conference. They also highlighted Mekhitarist Congregation’s activity.

Present at the conference were Pargev Archbishop Martirosyan, professors of the University, students, guests and others.
