First symposium on pottery launched in Artsakh’s Shushi (video)

On June 20, solemn opening ceremony of “Pottery Art” symposium was held in Shushi’s “Narekatsi” art union.

STEPANAKERT, JUNE 20, ARTSAKHPRESS: As ArtsakhPress correspondent informs, the symposium was organized with the support of “Narekatsi” art union, Artsakh Ministry of Culture, Youth Affairs and Tourism, and “Initiatives for Development of Armenia” charitable fund.

The symposium was opened with Maria Karapetyan’s staging, musician Alexandra Hayrapetyan, and “Storyteller” “National Dance’’ and “Kanun” groups.

Then spiritual leader of Holy Savior Cathedral of Shushi priest Andreas Tavadyan made a blessing speech. He said that the potteries to be made here should represent national art.

“I am sure that pottery makers have that skills and that this craft will develop in Shushi in the near future,’’ priest Andreas Tavadyan said.

Then participants of the symposium, founding and executive directors of “Narekatsi” art union and Artsakh Minister of Culture, Youth Affairs and Tourism told a press conference.

In his speech, Artsakh Minister of Culture, Sergey Shahverdyan, said that pottery has reach history.

“For some time we lost that branch of craft. We have been organizing courses and creating a team for years. Today we not only have masters but also new specialists. Symposium became the peak of all these,” Sergey Shahverdyan said.

Executive director of Shushi’s “Narekatsi” art union, Hayk Papyan, said that symposium in itself is a preservation of traditions.  One of the presented themes will be dedicated to Shushi.

He informed that the symposium will be held till July 5.  During this time, open classes in pottery making are to be held. An exhibition will be organized in the end.

Present at the event were adviser to the Artsakh President, Grigory Gabrielyants, Minister of Education, Science and Sport, Narine Aghabalyan, artists and guests.
