Armenian Open Youth Koch Wrestling Tournament held in Stepanakert

At the joint initiative of the Ministry of Education, Science and Sport of the Republic of Artsakh , Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, and Armenian National Kokh Wrestling Federation, for the first time Armenian Open Youth Koch wrestling tournament was held in Stepanakert dedicated to the 27th anniversary of the NKR proclamation.

STEPANAKERT, SEPTEMBER 1, ARTSAKHPRESS: As ''Artsakhpress'' reports, about 50 athletes from Artsakh and Armenia participate in the championship.
Narine Aghabalyan, Artsakh minister of education, science and sport noted that Armenian national kokh wrestling has deep historical roots.
Aghabalyan attached importance to the implementation of such sporting events and mentioned that it contributes to the preservation of Armenian national sports traditions, studying the peculiarities of the national system of physical education, the importance of patriotic upbringing, preservation of national identity and the formation of the right value system of younger generations.
 
Greco-Roman style wrestler, World champion and the head of the Armenian National Kokh Wrestling Federation Vaghinak Galustyan said that the history of the Armenian national sports, physical exercises and folk games have been formed centuries ago.
'Wrestling has deep historical roots in Armenia.
It existed in the Armenian Highlands since ancient times.
Armenians have their own variant of the game called Kokh,'' he said and added that such competitions give an opportunity to stimulate the popularization and development of this sport.
At the event, Artsakh minister of education, science and sport , National Security Service Director of the Republic of Artsakh, Sport Master of Armenia Samvel Shahramanyan awarded the winners with medals, diplomas and cash prizes
