President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan plans to call a supreme defense council to discuss the U.S. proposal on the sales of Patriot anti-missile systems, Bloomberg reported quoting a Turkish official.
Erdogan to discuss US proposal on Patriots
STEPANAKERT, DECEMBER 27, ARTSAKHPRESS: Erdogan is expected to hold a preliminary discussion of the possible purchase of the American systems. The reports about a meeting were confirmed in the administration, however, the agenda was not disclosed.
Although a detailed assessment is unlikely at this early stage, the discussion itself reflects the rapid detente between Ankara and Washington.
US President Donald Trump gave additional impetus to relations earlier this month when he agreed to withdraw troops from Syria, signaling that he would stop supporting Kurdish groups that Turkey considers terrorists.
