Askerov is the citizen of Azerbaijan, not Russia: Advocate
Dilham Askerov is the citizen of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Erik Beglaryan, who was the advocate of Askerov during criminal proceedengs initiated in July 2014, confirmed this in the interview with "Artsakhpress".
"As you know, Dilham Askerov was arrested being accused in crossing NKR state border illegaly, also in number of other crimes in July last year. He was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Court of First Instance. The verdict could be appealed in the period of a month in NKR Appeal Court. During the trial process there has been revealed that Askerov is the citizen of the Republic of Azerbaijan”, Beglaryan said, adding that after Askerov’s arrest Azerbaijani media has been trying to introduce him as Russian citizen which is not true.
We remind, that in Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov's annual press conference one of the journalists raised a question about the future of Askerov, as the citizen of Russia, to which Lavrov answered that this matter would be discussed with the Armenian side.
