David Babayan, Spokesman for the President of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) , believes that there is no special reason for Azerbaijan shelling the Armenian positions in the north-eastern direction.

“Of course, the ceasefire is being violated in the context of the military exercises [in Azerbaijan] as well. But it is that state’s essence, and such states are pursuing such policies,” Mr Babayan said. With worsening socio-economic situation in Azerbaijan, that state is speculating on the concept of the enemy to deviate public attention from the urgent problems. “We are sparing no effort to maintain our army’s efficiency at a high level, which is the most effective mechanism to maintain regional peace and stability. There is no other option,” as Tert.am reports, Mr Babayan said. All the necessary measures will be taken to ensure the NKR’s security and independence.
“To say that we are on the brink of war isn’t absolutely correct; the likelihood is very low. That, however, isn’t a guarantee for being less vigilant or demonstrating inattention to all that. The situation is under control,” he added.
