STEPANAKERT, SEPTEMBER 22, ARTSAKHPRESS: Their visit raised awareness for the 1915 slaughter of 1.5 million people, a shockingly sad event that’s rarely talked about. Kim, Kourtney, Khloe, and Rob Kardashian’s late father, Robert Kardashian, are of Armenian descent, and it would have meant a lot for him to know his children visited their homeland. According to an essay Kim penned for TIME during her visit this April, if her great-great grandparents had not fled from Armenia to L.A. in 1914, the family probably would have not survived.

"It is unbelievable to think it's been 100 years of people denying that this genocide ever happened," Kim said, as the family visited the Armenian Genocide Memorial in Yerevan. "And I'm proud to bring awareness to this issue." Kim says in the season premiere of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, September 20.

The Keeping Up With the Kardashians stars, visited Armenia in April along with Kim's husband Kanye West and daughter North West, and cousins Kourtni and Kara, spent time in Gyumri, a city outside the Armenian capital of Yerevan. The famous family traveled to their long-abandoned ancestral home. With rusted sheet metal walls, the roofless and debris-covered home proved harrowing for Kim, 34, who looked overwhelmed by the modest structure. Along with her sister, and family, the reality star explored the remains of the dilapidated house.

Keeping Up With Kardashians also referred to Kim’s husband, famous rapper Kanye West’s visit to TUMO Center for Creative Technologies on April 10. As the Center’s PR Department told, Kanye West was introduced to the area and talked to the students.

“Kanye West entered the animation classroom, talked to the students and lecturers and was introduced to the music group. The students sang along with Kanye West, after which they introduced their new song. Kanye West went to the movie theater. He especially liked the musical and animation part. He was very impressed with the Center’s activities,” the representatives of the Center’s technology center said.
