STEPANAKERT, FEBRUARY 16, ARTSAKHPRESS: Davit Babayan, Spokesperson of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR/Artsakh) President, stated the aforementioned.

He noted this commenting, at Armenian News-NEWS.am’s request, on the statement by Ali Hasanov, Chairman of the State Committee for Refugees and IDPs of Azerbaijan, that there are a large number of Armenian captives in Azerbaijan, and that the authorities of his country stand ready to exchange them with Azerbaijanis Dilham Askerov and Shahbaz Guliyev, who are serving prison sentences in the NKR.

“The two Azerbaijanis, who are sentenced for [committing] serious crimes, are serving their sentence,” Babayan said. “Contact is maintained with their relatives through the Red Cross. No discrimination is shown toward them.”

As for Hasanov’s statement regarding a large number of Armenian captives in Azerbaijan, the Artsakh President’s spokesperson noted that there are no captives in normal countries.

“Terrorists and bandits take captives,” Davit Babayan stressed. “According to our information, the Armenian captives are kept in Azerbaijani prisons under the names of Azerbaijanis, and this brings them out of the ICRC monitoring.”
