Bako Sahakyan: Artsakh Armenians rebuilt their statehood based on democratic principles

STEPANAKERT, APRIL 7, ARTSAKHPRESS: “For millennia we have been guided by exceptionally democratic values and made efforts to create a democratic state. All these have been recorded by the international community. We were highly appreciated by various states and groups implementing some missions. And we continued that efforts during the years of getting rid of the foreign rule, with a weapon in one hand and an agricultural tool for creating food in the other hand”, the President of Artsakh mentioned.

Referring to the root cause of Karabakh issue, Sahakyan mentioned that he does not agree with all those who see the issue only in the regional prism. “NKR issue came into existence a century ago, in the heated period of geopolitical changes, during the World War I. Another tragedy took place during that historical period. 1.5 million Armenians were exterminated by the Ottoman Empire; hundreds of thousands of our compatriots were deported. Another tragedy happened during these years. Our Motherland was divided and part of our Motherland was incorporated into a newly created state called Azerbaijan in 1921”, the President stated. Bako Sahakyan mentioned that the Artsakh Armenians never resolved themselves to the fact of the forceful and illegal reality. “For long years we made huge efforts to restore historical justice, but we did not manage to do that until the national-liberation movement of 1988”, the head of Artsakh Republic said.
