The term “management” in the agreement on setting up an Armenia-Russia united air defense system in the Caucasus is the direct management, and this provision is reserved for the Armenian side.
MOD: Armenia is given right to manage united air defense system with Russia
STEPANAKERT, JUNE 28, ARTSAKHPRESS: Ara Nazaryan, Deputy Minister of Defense of Armenia, on Tuesday told the aforementioned to reporters at the National Assembly, NEWS.am reports. He stated this in response to the concerns that, under this agreement, Armenia will be surrendering its right to air defense to Russia.
“The Republic of Armenia has no base installed in Russia,” said Nazaryan. “But the Russian Federation has, and it’s an additional resource from this viewpoint. And it will additionally manage also their means installed in terms of air defense.
“We need to plan everything independently. This is just an additional resource, which you don’t turn down.”
When asked, if Russia is normalizing relations with Turkey, can Armenia use this air defense system against Azerbaijan and Turkey, the deputy defense minister responded: “The right is reserved for us to use it."
