STEPANAKERT, OCTOBER 20, ARTSAKHPRESS: In an interview with Artsakhpress, the director of “Karabakh Carpet" Company Sevak Khachatryan noted that for many years the Armenian tradition of carpet weaving was interrupted and in the initial period it was difficult to restore it. As Khacahtryan informs, five workshops were operating in Artsakh, in Shushi, Stepanakert, Chartar, Hadrut and Berdzor.
"Unfortunately, now three workshops are operating, the workshops in Hadrut and Berdzor closed because of the problem of the product realization. The overall number of the employees exceeds 117, and their average salary is 75,000 AMD," noted Khachatryan.
"Our primary aim is to have at least one workshop in each region of Artsakh,” he said. Turning to the issue of product sales, Sevak Khachatryan stressed the importance of the functioning of ''Karabakh Carpet'' company Brand Stores in Yereven. Therefore, the works of Artsakh carpet-makers are presented not only in Armenia, but also to lots of tourists visiting our country. "We export our products mainly to United States, where Armenian Diaspora compatriots support us in sale of carpets. The orders from different countries of the world are also taken. Due to on-line store, operating on our official website, we receive orders as well," he said.
According to Sevak Khachatryan, the company's production activities are based on a strong foundation, which guarantees high quality products. The next step will be improving the marketing policy, in order ''Karabakh Carpet'' company's products to be properly presented in international markets.
“In general, we have a problem of product sales, as the handmade product is expensive. Carpet prices depend on the density (on average, 1 square meter is equivalent to 160,000 ADM). Of course, there are carpets that are more difficult to work with, which increases the cost of the carpet. It has been 3 months since the company also produces carpets, 1 square meter of which is equivalent to 70,000 AMD. Our company mainly produces carpets with traditional ornaments,” he said.
The main purpose of "Karabakh Carpet" company is the restoration of the rich culture and traditions of carpet weaving.
