Mediators’ task is to do everything to settle NK conflict exclusively through peaceful means – Russian Co-Chair

STEPANAKERT, JUNE 7 , ARTSAKHPRESS-ARMENPRESS: “In accordance with the agreement reached with the French and American Co-Chairs, as well as Ambassador Andrzej Kasprzyk, we will visit Armenia on June 10. We want to clarify the current situation in the conflict zone. Contemporary issues are expected to be discussed, also taking into account the results of the meeting of Russian, Armenian and Azerbaijani Foreign Ministers held in late April. The next day visit is expected to Nagorno Karabakh. As usual, the respective statement on meeting results will be released at the OSCE official website”, Igor Popov said, adding that the Co-Chairs will visit Baku late next week.

Asked whether such addressed statements, as recently released by the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs, can somehow contribute to easing tension in the Artsakh-Azerbaijan line of contact, the Russian Co-Chair said: “Our statement condemns the recent ceasefire violations and calls on the conflicting sides to take all necessary measures to prevent further escalation in the line of contact and the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. As I said, the situation in the conflict zone, the development prospects are going to be the subject of discussion during our upcoming visit to region. As mediators, our task is to do everything possible to settle the conflict exclusively through peaceful, political-diplomatic means. We will continue working on that path."
