US President Donald Trump sought to create a stark divide between Republicans and Democrats by demanding a ban on late-term abortion in his State of the Union address Tuesday.

STEPANAKERT,  FEBRUARY 6, ARTSAKHPRESS: The president earned a standing ovation from Republicans and stony silence from Democrats as he decried what he called 'chilling displays' of support for legalizing late term abortion in New York.

And he also seized on a gaffe by Ralph Northam - the Virginia governor now shamed for admitting to wearing blackface - who appeared to support infanticide as he defended a Democratic proposal for late-term abortion liberalization in the state, the Daily Mail reports.

'There could be no greater contrast to the beautiful image of a mother holding her infant child than the chilling displays our Nation saw in recent days,' Trump said.

'Lawmakers in New York cheered with delight upon the passage of legislation that would allow a baby to be ripped from the mother's womb moments before birth.

'These are living, feeling, beautiful babies who will never get the chance to share their love and dreams with the world.

“And then, we had the case of the Governor of Virginia where he basically stated he would execute a baby after birth.
