Mexico's Senate voted overwhelmingly in favor of legalizing medical marijuana on Tuesday, Reuters reported.

The initiative approved by senators involves the introduction of amendments to the law on health care and Code of Criminal Procedure of Latin America.
The debate on this subject lasted over a year since the moment when Supreme Court allowed four citizens asking to use marijuana for recreational purposes. Later, Mexican government spokesman Eduardo Sanchez explained that this decision concerned only those using it for recreational purposes and did not mean the legalization of marijuana in general.
