STEPANAKERT, DECEMBER 22, ARTSAKHPRESS:“There were important accomplishments. In Astana we signed the treaty on creating the EEU; this was my idea, which I told twenty years ago,” Nazarbayev said speaking with journalists from the national TVs, reported RIA Novosti news agency of Russia. As per the Kazakh president, however, the Eurasian Union is under a substantial risk today, and due to the present-day crisis.

“They already say that this is a loss of independence, and that the Soviet Union is being reestablished; [this is] absolutely absurd. He who wants to create the Soviet Union is completely mindless. We have left it a long time ago; it’s impossible,” Nazarbayev specifically stated.

He also noted that even though trade within the EEU had increased by up to 40 percent in the initial phase, it will “drop” at present. “But the trade turnover and the establishment of joint ventures have been well, [there are] open borders [between the EEU member states], the domain has expanded to three states, the economy is recovering, and this will work is for the benefit of us all,” Nursultan Nazarbayev added, in particular. After January 1, 2015, Armenia likewise is expected to join the Russia-led Eurasian Economic Union, which also includes Kazakhstan and Belarus.
