As ''Artsakhpress'' reports "Armenpress'' was informed about this by Syrian-Armenian Nazareth Elmajyan, adding that the church suffered great losses. A year before it was well preserved. According to him, in Mardaka about 50 kilometers from Deir ez-Zor heated battles take place between "Jabia an Nusra" and "DAISH " Islamist groupings, and no one is able to approach the area.
"The fate of Mardaka chapel is still unknown" - he said. The chapel is located near Deir ez- Zor, on the hill, where there are thousands of ashes of the Armenian martyrs.
Holy Martyrs Armenian Church was built on the place of the former Deir ez-Zor Hripsime Church and the National College. It was erected on May 12, 1985, on the initiative of Karekin I, Catholicos of Cilicia.
The construction work was completed in November 1990.
Before the hostilities around 20 Armenian families lived in Deir ez-Zor.
