Ashot Melkonyan: Cornerstone of our struggle must be compensation for Armenian Genocide

STEPANAKERT, OCTOBER 15, ARTSAKHPRESS-ARMENPRESS:  “We have struggled for 50 years for the recognition of the Armenian Genocide. We lost time when fighting for the restoration of the Armenians’ right who had been deprived of their homeland. The cornerstone of our struggle must be the compensation for the Armenian Genocide. Fortunately, today we consider that the recognition on state level is completed and transfer the issue to legal level,” Melkonyan stated, adding that it was possible to solve the issue of territorial compensation as it was legally established by the Treaty of Sèvres of 1920 and Woodrow Wilson's arbitral award of November 22, 1920.

“The two documents state that the Armenian nation who had been subjected to genocide must be provided with a homeland to stop that process and prevent the elimination of the ethnos,” Ashot Melkonyan said.
