Snow paralyzes highways in Armenia

STEPANAKERT, JANUARY 26, ARTSAKHPRESS: As of 8:00am Yerevan time, the highway connecting the village Sotk (Gegharkunik region) with Nagorno-Karabakh’s village of Karvatchar, and the Vardenyats mountain pass, as well as several inter-community highways in the regions of Aragatsotn, Shirak and Ararat are close.

The roadways in Hrazdan (Kotayk region) and the bends of Dilijan (Tavush region) are heavy-going. 

Snowfalls are reported in Vedi (Ararat region) and Spitak (Aragatrostn), the Syunik region (apart from towns of Goris and Meghri) and Ashtarak (Aragatsotn region). The weather is stormy in Ashotsk and Amasia (Shirak region).

Road cleaning activities are under way.

Drivers are recommended to avoid taking the above motorways unless strictly necessary and remember to use winter tyres.

According to the Georgian Interior Ministry’s Emergencies’ Department, the Stepantminda-Lars highway is close for all types of vehicles.
