The Karabakh conflict settlement should be comprehensive, which assumes an integrated solution of issues, and not an attempt to focus on separate issues.
Babayan: Karabakh status is directly linked to security
STEPANAKERT, FEBRUARY 16, ARTSAKHPRESS: Davit Babayan, Spokesperson of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR/Artsakh) President, said the abovementioned.
He stated this commenting, at Armenian News-NEWS.am’s request, on the statement by Ambassador James Warlick, the US Co-Chair of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Minsk Group, in which he had spoken about returning the “security zone” territories to Azerbaijan.
In Babayan’s words, Azerbaijan is focusing the emphasis on some issues, and the Minsk Group co-chairs are obligated to likewise speak about them. Moreover, Azerbaijan is trying to put the interests of the Armenian parties aside.
“As for the territories, Nagorno-Karabakh needs to participate in the [peace] talks, so as to be clear how real the adjustment of the borders is,” he said. “We [i.e. the NKR] have repeatedly stated that we are ready to consider all the issues with Azerbaijan. However, Baku likewise needs to understand that a return to the past in terms of territory, or in the matter of the Nagorno-Karabakh status, is impossible.
“The issue on the status is directly linked to security. For that reason, the conflict must be resolved in a way that it would not become an occasion for a more bloody war in the future.”
