On 14 March Artsakh Republic President Bako Sahakyan visited the village of Varanda in the Martouni region and partook in a solemn ceremony of opening the memorial of perished freedom fighters.
As the Central Information Department of the Office of the Artsakh Republic President informs "Artsakhpress" the Head of the State decorated with NKR state awards a group of freedom fighters of the "Arabo" detachment in connection with the 22nd anniversary of Varanda settlement's liberation and for personal bravery shown in battles defending the Fatherland.
In his speech President Sahakyan considered important the settlement's liberation from the strategic perspective, noting that without this it would be impossible to secure the Martouni region.
According to the President, the fact that numerous monuments in Artsakh and Armenia are being built in memory of our perished brothers and sisters testifies that the devotees of the nation and their heroism are not forgotten; the martyrs are always with us and continue to serve as an example of patriotism and selflessness for generations to come.
Defense minister Movses Hakobyan, other officials, guests from Armenia partook in the event.
