A church dating back to the mid-17th century in Artsakh’s Hochants village in the Kashatagh region has been renovated by the funding provided by the “Tufenkian” Charitable Foundation.

STEPANAKERT, JUNE 24,  ARTSAKHPRESS: The re-consecration of the St. Stepanos Church has been carried out by Archbishop Pargev Martirosyan, the head of the Diocese of Artsakh of the Armenian Apostolich Church. A Sunday Mass was held afterwards.

Archbishop Pargev Martirosyan in his speech highlighted the role of church building in Artsakh.

In an interview with “Artsakhpress”, Husik Sargsyan, Artsakh country director of the Foundation, said that as a part of their activities they also carry out restoration works of historical-cultural monuments.
“We received a suggestion from the Kashatagh region to renovate the Hochants church. So with the support of one of our sponsors we have restored the church. The restoration works lasted more than 2 months.

 During the works, we have found some cross stones.  Therefore, we informed the responsibles of Ministry of Culture, Youth Affairs and Tourism of the Republic of Artsakh about the cross stones ", added Sargsyan.

Head of the Kashatagh regional administration Stepan Sargsyan said that a number of charity programs are regularly being implemented in the region.

“We are deeply grateful to the foundation and sponsors who pay great attention to the spiritual needs of the citizens, " noted Sargsyan.
At the end of the event, Stepan Sargsyan, head of the Kashatagh regional administration, thanked Andranik Kasparian, the member of the Board of Trustees of “Tufenkian” Charitable Foundation for his significant contribution to the development of the region and handed a letter of appreciation.
Representatives of the Kashatagh regional administration, “Tufenkian” Foundation; residents of Hochants, and others attended the event.
