STEPANAKERT, MARCH 23, ARTSAKHPRESS: However, two factors may prove to be obstacles – being technically unprepared and tension between Russia and Europe, political scientist Alexander Iskandaryan told Tert.am.

Armenia has decided to sign a documeant and is now drafting one.

“Of course, it may be signed, which, however, does not mean it will because such a document requires much technical and political work. This work requires a serious approach,” Mr Iskandaryan said.

He is sure that Armenia is now agreeing points of the document with not only the European Union (EU), but also Russia.

“In any case, there seem to be no obstacles yet, and a document is most likely to be signed. On the other hand, anything may change in our real world, and obstacles may arise at any moment. A similar situation developed at the Vilnius Summit,” Mr Iskandaryan said.

“We should consider the fact that Armenia is of no great economic interest to either Europe or Russia. The EU is interested in further cooperation under the Eastern Partnership project. And it is of common interest to both Armenia and Europe,” he said.

As regards the Armenian president’s latest statement on Russian arms supplies to Azerbaijan in the context of closer relations with the EU, Mr Iskandaryan said that there is no conflict because the EU cannot ensure Armenia’s security.
