The ruins of Ani – one of the historical capitals of Armenia, now turned into a tourist center in Turkey, during the 6 months of 2014, have attracted 21 thousand tourists.

As reports “Artsakhpress”, this was informed by the Turkish “Anadolu” agency. Though nowadays the Turkish authorities are formally carrying out reconstruction and restoration works of Ani’s historical and cultural monuments, the city does not cease to be of great interest for people from different countries.

“This city of civilizations was visited by 23 thousand 730 people last year, and only during six months of this year already 21 thousand people have visited it. A large growth was registered in the number of local and foreign tourists visiting the ancient city on cultural tours. The tourists mainly come from Germany, Armenia, Georgia and Japan" – said the Director of Provincial Department of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism Hakan Doğanay. He noted that Ani deserves to find a place on the World Heritage List, and the preservation of the city "is the responsibility of the present and future generations".
