PACE’s biased report on Sarsang Reservoir is yet another blow to democratic values

STEPANAKERT, NOVEMBER 24, ARTSAKHPRESS-ARMENPRESS: Spokesman of the President of the Artsakh Republic Davit Babayan said the aforementioned in connection with the adoption of a strictly biased report by PACE (the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe) Social Affairs Committee on Sarsang Reservoir.

“Reports with no political, legal significance come to the fore which is a serious moral blow to PACE itself and democratic values.  People involved in those corruptive schemes think of no value except  money,” Babayan stated.

As Babayan said, Armenia must clearly introduce its position to let everybody know that such a document which is bought, sold and ordered will have no essential impact on the will and determination of the Armenians.

He emphasized that Artsakh has suggested Azerbaijan on numerous occasions cooperation related to the distribution of Sarsang Reservoir water resources, but their answer made it clear that the Azerbaijani party is not interested in that.

He clarifies the aforementioned by the fact that Azerbaijani side had put aside issues connected with their ecology and agriculture development and the fact that people in border territories do not have water saying that in terms of money it would form very little. So that is the reason for which they refused the suggestion. Moreover, they conduct such policy in order to disseminate hatred toward Armenians among their population. Babayan concluded saying that the Azerbaijani authorities, who are the only ones to blame for the fact that their population does not have water, attempt to mislead their population by winning political dividends.

PACE’s Social Affairs, Health and Sustainable Development Committee included in its agenda a report related to the Nagorno Karabakh Sarsang Reservoir. PACE’s Committee adopted Milica Marković’s (representative of Bosnia and Herzegovina) report which is intensely biased and is titled “Inhabitants of frontier regions of Azerbaijan are deliberately deprived of water”.
