Second Census since Artsakh Independence is launched
STEPANAKERT, DECEMBER 1, ARTSAKHPRESS: This is the second census since Nagorno-Karabakh Republic declared its independence. The census will last till Dec.9.
Michael Soghomonyan, the Head of the Department of Census of the National Statistical Service of Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, informed Artsakhpress that a Republican commission, Stepanakert commission and 7 regional commissions, nine census, 90 instructor and 501 enumeration areas are set for conducting the second census.
According to Soghomonyan, since the first census which was conducted in 2005, socio-economic significant changes have been registered in Artsakh.
“ Population census should be conducted in Artsakh periodically, as the results have essential role in planning and managing state and economic policy of Artsakh, “ he noted, adding that the census will give an opportunity to study the changes in social and economic levels and predict new directions and principles for progress in future.
Soghomonyan noted the importance of population’s active participation in obtaining reliable and accurate data and added that according to the NKR Law on Population Census, the participation of this event is the duty of the citizens. Preliminary results will be released to public in April 2016 and final results by the end of the year.
