Russian ambassador considers tense situation in Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone as inadmissible

STEPANAKERT, SEPTEMBER 29, ARTSAKHPRESS-ARMENPRESS: Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Armenia Ivan Volinkin announced about this, commenting on the tense situation in Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone provoked by Azerbaijan. “From time to time there is a tense situation on Nagorno-Karbakh conflict contact line. Of course, it is a very sad fact that new type of weapons is used on the contact line, which was not used previously. I sincerely hope that there will not be another escalation in Nagorno-Karbakh, as it was not being solved by military way: The only way for its resolution should be implemented around the negotiation table. I cannot say when it will be possible, but the two sides of the cooperation, as well as the international community and particularly OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs should make efforts over the resolution of this conflict,” he informed.

Referring to the Minsk Group Co-Chairs call, that Armenian and Azerbaijani presidents should accept the mechanism about the investigation of ceasefire violations suggested by OSCE, Ivan Volinkin mentioned the following: “The implementation of this mechanism is impossible without the agreement of the two sides and it should be worked over this direction. Of course, the implementation of the investigation mechanism over border incidents is a necessity, but before that the mechanisms of mutual trust should be enhanced.”
